Written in 1924, this play is a powerful American tale inspired by the old Greek tragedies. It was made into an Academy Award-winning film in 1958 starring Sophia Loren, Anthony Perkins and Burl Ives.
The play centers around a love triangle between Ephraim Cabot, an hard-as-iron old farmer; his brooding and proud son Eben, and Ephraim's young and dangerous bride, Abbie.
The NCHT performance features a nod to the old Greek tragedies and the musical talents of guitarist Howard Matthews to provide a thematic, background mood.
